Hi! I'm very happy to be here! I'm a fan of Mary-Jess (obviously) and I'm excited about what she'll be doing in the future.
I'm a singer and a violinist. I play in a local community orchestra (Great fun!!) I also play ukulele. I speak (am still learning) Japanese, though I'm sure it would be more convenient HERE if i spoke/read Chinese...

Thank Gary!
I'm actually a big KOKIA fan! She's fantastic. I especially love her albums 'Fairy Dance~KOKIA Meets Ireland' and 'The Voice'.
Gosh, I can hold a basic conversation but I don't think I could translate ONE whole song let alone an entire album!! Maybe someday soon...

Truly a unique site with several members already communicating in Chinese and Japanese. Mary Jess will be impressed with the quality of her fans.

Konichiwa Jenny! Absolutely love Japan and everything to do with it (well... not everything...)! Love the food, music, technology, culture... argh, love it! I actually never say "hello" in real life - I always say "konichiwa". It's met with confusion at first, but people learn soon enough! People say it to me in greeting now without being prompted. It's also how I answer my mobile and house telephone (now THAT is met with bewilderment by the telesales person on the other end!) Just a strange quirk of mine I guess... No? Okay, I'm weird. Just weird. I listen to quite a bit of Japanese music. I would, by no means, call myself an expert on it though. I have my favourites and I stick to them. Like Boa, Utada, Kanon and love (very much) Nobuo Uematsu. I've seen Kanon Wakeshima live, as well when I went to Hyper Japan in London last year. I love Jade Valerie (aka Sweetbox/Saintvox/Eternity). She's an American based in Germany who's big in Japan... She doesn't really have a career outside of Far East Asia so I normally include her in my Japanese list. XD The love stems from sushi and my favourite childhood computer game series Final Fantasy.

The Voice is also one of my favourites, along with Aigakikoeru: Listen for the Love, and Trip Trip. Wonderful singer / songwriter with a beautiful voice. I personally class many of her works as CC or very close (I hate the classification J-Pop. Really doesn't describe the sounds.). Don't try translating Cyouwa Oto though as I understand it's sung in Japanese backwards.

I don't think J-pop is a genre. It's what ignorant Westerners call any song that's sung in Japanese. Imagine if they called every single song in English E-pop. Doesn't really describe the music does it? Could be this: or this: Not really the same...

Just weird. That's not TOO weird I've done that a few times when I know who's calling. only I say "Moshi Moshi" sometimes followed by "Dare ka?" (who is it?) when answering the phone. That's typically what they say in Japan but you're not wrong to say "Konnichiwa". Probably less confusing to others to use that word... I also love sushi. Mochi (rice cake with sweet bean filling) is great, too. I buy that at the local asian market. I listen to alot of Japanese music, too. My favorites are Kanon Wakeshima (jealous! You got to see her live! ), KOKIA, Alan (who's actually Tibetan but based in Japan), and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (a very strange electronic-pop singer and harajuku fashion model). Rimi Natsukawa is a nice singer from Okinawa. She sings a little more traditional Enka style with a touch of Pop. Ayumi Hamasaki has a nice collection of Orchestral-Remix albums that are great! Then there's ALI PROJECT, a band with a collection of what they call "Strings albums". Some of their songs are actually really good.
