Hi everyone,
I don't wish to cause any animosity here but, almost since this forum was launched, I have been concerned about the volume of posts made in support of numerous other singers (Annelies, Katie Melua, Siobhan Owen, Laura Wright, Sisca and Toni Gibson come to mind but there have been others frequently mentioned). The occasional passing comment is acceptable and probably inevitable but those which are made solely to spread the word, or to promote the music of those other singers, especially when they link to videos on You Tube, seem to reduce the effectiveness of this forum's intended purpose.
My point is this. All those other singers are rivals to Mary-Jess in the music industry. Consequently, any post made in support of them is effectively a vote against her. I know that is not intended but it is how it comes across to me and, for all we know, perhaps to her (although I am sure she is too nice to say so). It is a bit like voting for all ten nominations in the Classical Brits. They would cancel one another out.
The Administrators of this forum are now running three others which support various other singers (or group in one case). Let's suppose that one or more of those other artists becomes better known, more popular and ultimately more successful as a result of those forums' existance. That would increase competition and therefore only make it harder for Mary-Jess to achieve the success that she deserves. I am not suggesting that members shouldn't enjoy other singer's work, buy CDs, go to concerts, etc, but I don't understand why some members are going to such lengths to support and promote more than one of them, whomever that may be. Imagine an Arsenal fan showing public support for Chelsea! It just wouldn't happen.
I don't imagine that this forum alone is going to catapult Mary-Jess to international stardom but I know we all hope it may help just a little bit. But so much support being shown to others is surely counter-productive and, when it appears on a forum that supposedly exists to promore Mary-Jess, it almost looks like a slap in the face to her.
Sorry to mention it but I just felt the time had come to air my views.
