Hi, Within an article titled 'Meet the prime-time Brits abroad'........
CHINA IN HER HANDS
Mary-Jess Leaverland made world headlines in December 2009 as the British student who won the Chinese version of The X Factor while at university there.
An audience of 70 million watched the programme I Want To Sing To The Stars.
“I really thought they would want a Chinese person to win. I couldn’t believe it when it was me,” she said after renditions of Sarah Brightman’s Time To Say Goodbye and Mariah Carey’s When You Believe.
Her prize was a simple trophy and the equivalent of £1,000 – enough for her flight home for Christmas.
Mary-Jess, now 23, then went on to tour with tenor Russell Watson and even recorded the soundtrack to Downton Abbey in September 2011 but remains relatively unknown in the UK.
There is also a 'stock' photo of Mary-Jess; the one with her sat on a stool, in front of 'Flower Wallpaper' with Chinese Parasols around her feet.....Sure you all know the one !
