This thread was always coming wasn't it? ;D For those who know me will know that I absolutely adore Laura Wright, and have been following her career for well over five years now. The former member of classical group All Angels released her debut solo album 'The Last Rose' last year which went on to top the Classical charts. Along with Shine it is one of my favourite albums from last year. I think Laura has a stunning voice. This is a promo video for The Last Rose This performance of Morning Has Broken is just gorgeous, recorded a few weeks ago from Songs of Praise. I love this performance by Laura, performing 'My Way' at the Sir Bobby Robson tribute in her home town of Ipswich. I also run a forum for Laura which I set up last year. We may not be here now without it as it was the forum Mary-Jess saw when the idea for this forum came about. You can visit the forum here - laurawright.proboards.comLaura is in for a very busy year. A lot of concerts and appearances have just been announced for 2012 and Laura will be touring with both Russell Watson and Alfie Boe. Hopefully I will be able to get along to one of those and see her again. Laura's Official Website - www.laura-wright.co.ukDazza

Thanks Dazza. I never expected this post LOL. I love Laura too and it is good to have another English rose as I said in a previous post. Some may argue that Faryl Smith should be one but I am afraid she comes number 3 in my book of roses.

I love Laura, though I was disappointed with her solo effort last year. Hoping to enjoy her next album! XD
Ultimately, I'm still unhappy with her leaving All Angels - a group I adore and who have since been dropped by Universal. They were perfect together and created excellent, balanced music. If I had to choose between the two, I would want All Angels signed. Better yet, have them signed WITH Laura in the group.
I know, I know. I should move on!
I saw Laura live a few weeks ago on Alfie Boe's tour. He was pulling and shoving all over the stage! I was impressed by how she put with it all! He seems to be a very difficult duet partner. XD

Thanks Nicola, I am not aware of the reasons behind Laura leaving All Angels. I loved and still do like their music and think they were the best female classical group. How do you rate them against Celtic Women?

I would take All Angels over Celtic Woman any day. CW's best album was A New Journey, with Hayley, Meav and Orla in their line-up. Even then, they tended to take it in turn to sing solos, whereas the harmonies that All Angels create together are just blissful. All Angels at their best are better than any soloist could ever be, in my opinion.
I too would have preferred Laura to stay with the group, but I am eagerly awaiting her next solo album.

All Angels are simply wonderful, at their peak with Laura in the group the way that their voices harmonized with each other just couldn't be matched. Along with Daisy, Laura was my favourite member and I was gutted when she left, so I was delighted when she emerged again as a solo artist. Laura has such a beautiful and pure voice and although I loved 'The Last Rose' she can do a lot more with the second album, I think that she has so much potential. Bob, Laura left All Angels partly to concentrate on her studies at the time but also because she had concerns about the direction of the group. Concerns also shared by me at the time. Here is a great interview from Suffolk Magazine where Laura explains her reason for leaving All Angels and her journey since. It contains some beautiful photographs too. It's a pdf, so you need Adobe Reader to read it. framcollege.co.uk/assets/pdfs/press/fc/laura_wright_suffolk_people_aug11.pdfSuffolk's Rose, soon to be England's Rose. Dazza

How do you rate them against Celtic Women? I wouldn't. Not even close. Celtic Woman is a group of sweet sounding soloists, All Angels sing as one voice. I don't think Celtic Woman are as talented either. As to reasons why she left - there's always more going on than what meets the eye. But this is unfair, this is Laura's thread as a soloist. Perhaps we should make a separate thread for All Angels. They lost their record deal, but they are still going on as indies with a new member (who sounds nice enough - but she's no Laura).

Interesting to read your earlier comments about Alfie Boe as a duet partner Nicola, I've only seen him at last years Classical Brits but it looks like I will be going to his concert at the Lytham Proms this summer, with Laura of course, so it will be interesting to watch.
Here is a video of Alfie and Laura performing Come What May.
This is beautiful.... and something we will probably hear a lot of this year (I can't think why? ;D)

Thank you for introducing me to Laura Wright. She's lovely!
It's funny. Some months ago I was rather bored and read something about the town of Framlingham. I decided to google it and ended up on Framlingham college's website. I thought there was something familiar about Laura Wright and now I know why. She was in a video about the school.

I saw Laura just once with All Angels, and again at an informal pre-launch event for her 'Last Rose' album.
Here's one of her songs from that event
I hope to catch up with her again some time this year.

Thanks for sharing your video John.
I am so glad you have discovered Laura here, Luna. Although this forum is primarily for Mary-Jess it is great to talk about other talented artists too.
I know Framlingham College are very proud of Laura and she is always going back to take part in local events.

Here's a video of Laura singing a lovely version of Fever. Totally different from what we would normally expect to hear from her but I love it!!

Indeed. Is "other music" primarily for other classical crossover artists?
I love Celtic Woman. I only discovered All Angels a few days ago, but I think they're great as well.
